Puppies!

A few weeks back, I mentioned my love of the website dailypuppy.com. Well, here's another one to help you get your puppy fix: puppiesden.com. You are able to browse galleries of your favorite breeds, and share photos if you'd like. If I don't quit looking at these sites, there is a good chance there will be another dog in our household soon (and trust me, 2 is keeping me plenty busy)!

Speaking of puppies, has anyone in your life recently added a new little furry friend to their household? What better way to help them welcome their new addition than by sending them a basket filled to the brim with toys and treats? With our Build Your Own baskets, you can personally select each of the items to be included... and as an added bonus, we are currently offering 10% off all Build Your Own baskets in honor of our 7-year anniversary. But, hurry, this sale is almost over!

We hope everyone is enjoying this winter weather. We just love taking our little bichons to run around in the snow, they practically get lost in our yard they blend in so well! I'll try to get a photo up the next time we get a fresh snowfall.

Until next time...

Dogs on Twitter

If you're following us on Twitter, you've probably seen our tweets about this newest invention: a device which will allow our dogs to Twitter.

While the executives at Mattel, the company responsible for this toy/invention, caution that this is just a "toy," it led me to think - what if our dogs COULD talk? What would they tell us? Do they understand what we're trying to tell them?

As a person who has invested heavily in dog training, I can tell you I think the most effective forms of communication with our pets are nonverbal. My animals are less likely to "obey" me if I give them a spoken command, (i.e. "Enough!" when they are barking) than if I give them a scolding glance. I think they feel the effects of my love for them much more deeply when I give them cuddle time, than when I tell them they did something good.

If my dogs could use a device and (accurately) post their thoughts and actions online, I think they might express gratitude over my baby daughter throwing food all over the floor during mealtime, they would discuss their elation when the snow falls and their sadness when we all leave for the office each day. I'd bet my life that they'd tweet about wanting more walks.

Although this newest fad won't likely be life changing, it does cause one to think. Our animals are already sharing their thoughts with us. We just need to use our eyes and hearts to listen, instead of our ears.

Valentine's Day

This is one of the best things I have heard in a while... not surprising, but still great to have it proven. A recent study says that nearly 1/5 of 24,000 adults surveyed would prefer to spend Valentine's Day with their pet than their partner/spouse. While I truly enjoy human companionship, I must say I "get it."

There is something so nice and relaxing about spending a nice night in with my dogs. Nobody hogs the remote, nobody cares if I drink the last glass of wine, nobody talks during the TV show/movie.

It's a rare occasion that I find myself in this situation these days. With a baby, husband and family all around town, O'Reilly, Finningan and I don't get much time alone. But, I'm now reminded that they make excellent "night in" companions. And, they won't bark if I decide I'm in the mood for a "chick flick." They've definitely earned a Valentine's Day reward!

Party Time!

It’s hard for me to believe my O’Reilly has been with me for so long. His 11th birthday is coming up, making him 77 in dog years! Although he is getting older in years, he seems to maintain his carefree puppy attitude. He is not showing his age, still runs around the house and yard, barks like a “mad dog” and doesn’t seem to need a lot of sleep. If only we were all so lucky on that last point!

In anticipation of his upcoming birthday, I’ve decided to start planning a little party to celebrate what a wonderful companion he has been to my family. I know he will appreciate the extra attention (and treats!) and it’s always fun to have an excuse to get together with friends and family. Here are a few basic ideas to quickly and easily put together a celebration for the canine companion in your life.

Invitations. Evite.com has three pages worth of pet-themed party invitations. Use this eco-friendly solution to send your party invitation right to your guest’s inbox. Don’t see quite the perfect invitation for your party? There is also the option to design your own.

Attire. Juicy Couture has made some of my favorite “doggy couture” pieces. However, their site no longer appears to be carrying the pet line. Never fear, the website Pawlished Paws has an extensive Juicy Couture Pets selection and – bonus! – most of the items are on sale. Your pooch will be the best-dressed dog in town!

Food. Put together two tables – one for the humans, and one for the pooches! We suggest lining the tables with dog themed tablecloths or plain linens to showcase the display. A birthday cake will make an excellent centerpiece, and definitely mark the occasion as special. You can order an exquisite doggy birthday cake or extra large party bone right on this site – the perfect treat for your special pet to share with their pooch friends.

Drinks. Simple. Have a variety of beverages for your human guests and several water dishes set up for your canine friends to quench their thirst.

Games. See who’s dog can fetch the fastest; who’s dog responds to a command the soonest?; which pooch can find the hidden stash of treats? All fun games you can play and then award prizes to the winning dog.

Favors. What party would be complete without a takeaway treat? Doggie Deliveries now offers special, birthday party themed cookies, perfect to hand out as your guests walk out the door. Or, order any of our gourmet treats and put together your own special party bags!

Thank you notes. Don’t forget to thank your friends for joining you at the party, and whatever presents they showered on your canine companion! Send a personalized, hand-written thank you note. Proper etiquette calls for notes being sent within a week – so get writing!

Celebrity Pets

Here is another fun website I've frequented. People Magazine's Pet Edition (online only). This site is great, it has adorable pet photos, a shopping guide and pics of your favorite celebrities with their animals.

Speaking of celebrities... why not pamper your pooch like a celebrity this Valentine's Day? Check out our Valentine's Day gift baskets and heart shape boxes filled with gourmet treats. There is still time left to order! I personally can't wait to show my little guys my appreciation for how wonderful they are to me.
