Party Time!

It’s hard for me to believe my O’Reilly has been with me for so long. His 11th birthday is coming up, making him 77 in dog years! Although he is getting older in years, he seems to maintain his carefree puppy attitude. He is not showing his age, still runs around the house and yard, barks like a “mad dog” and doesn’t seem to need a lot of sleep. If only we were all so lucky on that last point!
In anticipation of his upcoming birthday, I’ve decided to start planning a little party to celebrate what a wonderful companion he has been to my family. I know he will appreciate the extra attention (and treats!) and it’s always fun to have an excuse to get together with friends and family. Here are a few basic ideas to quickly and easily put together a celebration for the canine companion in your life.

• Invitations. Evite.com has three pages worth of pet-themed party invitations. Use this eco-friendly solution to send your party invitation right to your guest’s inbox. Don’t see quite the perfect invitation for your party? There is also the option to design your own.
• Attire. Juicy Couture has made some of my favorite “doggy couture” pieces. However, their site no longer appears to be carrying the pet line. Never fear, the website Pawlished Paws has an extensive Juicy Couture Pets selection and – bonus! – most of the items are on sale. Your pooch will be the best-dressed dog in town!
• Food. Put together two tables – one for the humans, and one for the pooches! We suggest lining the tables with dog themed tablecloths or plain linens to showcase the display. A birthday cake will make an excellent centerpiece, and definitely mark the occasion as special. You can order an exquisite doggy birthday cake or extra large party bone right on this site – the perfect treat for your special pet to share with their pooch friends.
• Drinks. Simple. Have a variety of beverages for your human guests and several water dishes set up for your canine friends to quench their thirst.
• Games. See who’s dog can fetch the fastest; who’s dog responds to a command the soonest?; which pooch can find the hidden stash of treats? All fun games you can play and then award prizes to the winning dog.
• Favors. What party would be complete without a takeaway treat? Doggie Deliveries now offers special, birthday party themed cookies, perfect to hand out as your guests walk out the door. Or, order any of our gourmet treats and put together your own special party bags!
• Thank you notes. Don’t forget to thank your friends for joining you at the party, and whatever presents they showered on your canine companion! Send a personalized, hand-written thank you note. Proper etiquette calls for notes being sent within a week – so get writing!
