Marine Mammal Training for Dogs?

After the Shedd's Oceanarium pavilion in Chicago was closed for refurbushing, the trainers were left with not animals to train. So Ken Ramirez, the Shedd's animal training chief decided to do something fun and new. They adopted six dogs from the local animal shelter and decided to train them. The dogs were all up for adoption, some turned in by owners, some where tied up and left to starve like Nico who is an American Bulldog mix. Olivia, who is a German Shephard was abused so much she was scared of humans.

With the trainers ready to teach, they set out to create a show (by using the marine mammal training regimen)called, "Pet Training the Shedd Way". It is a 20 minute show on how to train your dogs to be good house pets. It also encourages the attendees to adopt a dog from thier local shelter, showing that you can turn around a dog by using proper training techniques.

The show opens today and will run through next summer. They are hoping to keep it going when the Oceanarium reopens, but that has not been decided for sure.
If the show is closed when the Oceanarium is closed the workers are ready to adopt the dogs, they have won their hearts!

A Man Saves his dog from a Shark

Greg LeNoir, a Florida man punched a shark to save his dog. While watching his dog Jake swim in the ocean, Mr. LeNoir saw a shark engulf his rat terrier. Without hesitating LeNoir jumped in with a fist ready and hit the shark in the back of the head, saving his dog.

In the Miamiherald.com, Mrs. LeNoir said Jake is their child and was not surprised when her husband jumped in to save him.

Jake surprisingly was not critically injured. After having surgery to repair lacerations and puncture wounds Jake is on his way to a full recoery. He is a lucky dog.
