City Dogs may be Fenced out

Charlie and his owner Barbara are frustrated that their favorite place to socialize and play has been fenced in. For many city dogs they have to rely on open parks to get their exercise and Charlie and his friends are concerned they may lose that.

Trust Funds for Dogs

Leona Helmsley left her Maltese a $12 million, yes 12 million dollar trust fund. Ms. Helmsley passed away Monday at the age of 87. Although her furry friend will be taken care of the rest of its life - she left out two of her four grandchildren, stating she left them out for "reasons that are known to them".

I wonder who else has a trust fund for their dog...

I just thought all dogs knew how to swim, but I guess it may not come as easy for some breeds. A New York Dog Spa is offering swimming classes for some lucky pups!

Update on Lucky

Lucky the dog is looking for a new home! The knife that was embedded in her skull has been removed and did not do any damage to her brain. She is ready to play and has passed her aggression tests. The Atlanta Humane Society is now looking for a loving home to welcome Lucky, but they will make sure it is a good fit before they let this special dog go.

Playful Antelope

A young antelope was found playing with a neighborhood dog on a walking trail in Colorado. Although the two got a long, it seems the antelope may be too friendly to return to the wild.

Pet Funeral Home

Since pets have really become family members it is no surprise that there are now funeral homes for pets. An article in the AJC talks about how when a pet passes away their owner needs closure, just the same as if anyone close to them passes on.

Sending some Love to Lucky

We were just floored when we saw the story of Lucky, a poor pit bull from Atlanta who was stabbed in the head with a hunting knife. If you haven't seen the pictures on ajc.com, please click this link, it's something else.

In a nutshell, Lucky was found at a local vet office with a knife sticking out of her head. Miraculously, she was alive and wagging her little tail. The wonderful people at the Atlanta Humane Society are trying their best to bring Lucky back to health, but she isn't out of the woods yet. They are also offering a reward for any information that will lead to the conviction of whoever did this to poor lucky.

We are sending Lucky a Dog Get Well Basket, and inspired by the kindhearted folks at ajc.com, we wanted to offer up the opportunity for our customers to sign a card on the gift basket. Just leave a comment on this blog post, and we'll add your message for Lucky on our card and basket that we send to the Atlanta Humane Society. Hopefully some gourmet treats and fun toys will brighten Lucky's day just a little bit.

McGruff Takes on Tay Zondays Chocolate Rain

Most of us have seen the Chocolate Rain clip of Tay Zonday, and are stuck with the tune for the next few hours. Well since we are a dog oriented site, I had to post the response to Tay by McDuff the Crime Dog. I have to warn you, this tune really is addictive so try to sing quietly if you are at work.

Oxygen Masks for Dogs

Pet owners are not the only people showing compassion for their furry friends. Gwinnett and Forsyth as well as other counties in Georgia are beginning to stock oxygen masks on their fire trucks - realizing that our hamsters, cats, and dogs are part of our family, not just a pet.

Dogs Can Help Us Lose Weight?

Need to lose some weight? Get a dog! That's how Patti Lawson lost 30 pounds. Patti and her dog, Sadie, craved junk food, but a warning from Sadie's vet helped them both start to eat better. Patti also lost weight from exercising with Sadie. As she told the AJC, "They don't call in sick. (Sadie) is always ready to go when I am."

Sponsor Sparky

You can help sponsor Sparky or even be his guardian angel! Click on Sponsor Sparky and you will be able to donate money to help cover his $6000-$8000 medical bills. (Just a little warning that a couple of the pictures of Sparky are a bit graphic)

Sparky

It is so unfortunate that some dogs get placed into the wrong hands. Sparky is one of them, this story happened last week when a dog was seen tied to a bumper and fighting for his life. Sparky is still fighting for his life and trying to recover from such horrible wounds.

Dog Shoots Owner

We all know how excited dogs can become, especially when company arrives. Their tails start wagging and everything on the coffee table is game for getting knocked to the floor...I am not sure that is where I would place a gun!
