Pet Food Recall

Please double check the recall list (http://www.menufoods.com/recall/) to make sure your pet food is safe.

A second ingredient, in some dog foods, was found to be tainted with the chemical melamine.
As stated in an article on Yahoo News!, "The chemical, melamine, is believed to have contaminated rice protein concentrate used to make a variety of Natural Balance Pet Foods products for both dogs and cats, the Food and Drug Administration said Wednesday."

This is getting pretty scary for me, I own two dogs and I am starting to worry if their food will eventually be added to the list. I will try to post anything I find out, and please let us know if you have any additional information or updates that may help us to keep our pets safe.

Thanks,
Cassie

Salmonella

I just received an e-mail from a company that Eight In One, Inc. has issued a voluntary recall of all Dingo CHICK'N JERKY treats due to company concerns
that the jerky treats have the potential to be contaminated with
Salmonella. Salmonella can cause serious infections in dogs and cats,
and, if there is cross contamination, in people, especially children,
the aged, and people with compromised immune systems. The Food and
Drug Administration is aware of this recall.
The products subject to the recall are Dingo CHICK'N JERKY 3.5 oz and 8 oz. for dogs.

Consumers who purchased any of the above-identified CHICK'N
JERKY TREATS should discontinue use of the products and discard the
unused portion. Consumers can obtain a refund by sending a letter to
Eight in One with the information stated above. FAQs and additional
information are available on the manufacturer's website,
www.eightinonepet.com or call 1-888-232-9889.

Please pass this on to other dog owners so we can all keep our pets from getting sick!

Volunteer Mostly Mutts

If you live in the Acworth/Kennesaw area, here is a great rescue that could use your help.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED:

Saturday, April 14th, Bullard School Carnival and Silent Auction, 1:00 – 4:00. Two volunteers are needed to pass out brochures at this event. No animals will be on site but it’s a great opportunity to spread the word about spay/neuter.

Adoption volunteers: Every Saturday volunteers are needed at the Barrett Parkway Petsmart from 10:30 – 6:30. You may come at any time and stay as long as you wish. You must be 14 years old to volunteer.

Shelter volunteers: Volunteers are desperately needed to help at the shelter, located in Kennesaw. There are four shifts and you must be trained (by me). Please contact me if you are interested. You must be 16 years old.

“Stop ‘LITTER’ing, Spay/Neuter” – 10,000 brochures need to be distributed in Cobb County. Please commit to distributing them in your own subdivision. Also, we need to get them out in churches and other organization.

Magnets are available for you car doors for $20.00 each (that’s cost).

These are very large magnets and we want them displayed for the general public to see.

DOGS FOR ADOPTION/FOSTER:

Blue Merle: This one needs a very special family to help with his special needs. He has Pancreatic Insufficiency…needs meds with meal.

Fred: He’s a great Hound mix. He’s big and lovable. Great with other dogs.

Girl Scout Cookies (this is Thin Mint): They are now about 10 weeks old (4 weeks in this photo)

And are so sweet and lovable. Very well behaved and super cute. Lab/Pit mix…lots of lab-like personality.

Angel Hair (Pasta Puppy) – Female, beautiful and sweet!!! Probably has Rottweiler in her.

DONATIONS:

“Homes to HOWL For” – This organization needs dog houses in good condition to give to dogs that are housed on chains. If you can’t get them off of the chain, the next best thing is to make their lives more comfortable. A gift certificate to Petsmart, or other stores who sell plastic dog houses would be so appreciated by them and by the dog it will help. If you go to yard sales, please keep a look out for plastic (no wood) dog houses in good condition. Please contact Linda Hunt (kneeling in photo) at puppygirl526@hayoo.com or Sharon Barchuk (standing, far right) at sbarchuk@mindspring.com.

Mostly Mutts appreciates donations of wire kennels (large and extra large needed) in good condition. We also appreciate cash donations to use for food, shelter expenses and especially for vet bills.

Flea control – Please consider purchasing a box of Frontline for our dogs. Its flea season and this is very expensive for us as we have over 50 dogs in our program. We only accept Frontline, Advantage, Advantix, and Revolution. We do not accept Hartz, Seargent, Adams, Bio Guard or other on-the-counter flea control.

Enjoy your Spring Break and come visit us at Petsmart on Saturdays.
