Mostly Mutts

Mostly Mutts is a local animal rescue and adoption organization here in Georgia that is helping to reduce the number of animals euthanized. Check out their website (click on Mostly Mutts title) for more information on events, volunteering and their mission.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED:

Pet adoptions: We need volunteers every Saturday any time between 10:30 and 6:30. We REALLY need help at the later hour to help close everything down and get it all in the van. It’s tough when all of the volunteers leave then there is no one to help ‘close’. We still like volunteers to come at other hours too.

Sunday, March 4th – Volunteers are needed to come to the shelter to help with some landscaping work. I have a nice group coming, but could still use more people. Can everyone bring a shovel and a few people bring a wheelbarrow? We need help from 10:00 on…we will have about 5 tons of rock to move, so the more, the merrier.

No transporters are needed this weekend.

DOGS NEEDING FOSTER OR PERMANENT HOMES:

I’m going to focus on our two special needs dogs. They really need some caring families. Each of these dogs have cost well over $1000.00 each.

Blue Merle – He is probably one of the sweetest dogs you’ll ever meet but he’s a handful. He absolutely adores people and other dogs and gets along well with cats too. He’s been in our program since May of last year. He survived Parvo, Coccidia, Giardia, and a terrible set back from pancreatic insufficiency. He takes medication with every meal so his body will absorb the food. That’s all he needs now, is just two to three pills with each meal. He scales chain link fences and does not like to be kenneled. He is potty trained if his medication is given correctly. He’d be a great camping buddy or a super companion to take to work with you daily. He’ll go anywhere and is so social. Please pass the word on this guy so he can finally find a permanent home! He’s about a year old and only 30 pounds.

Rex. We now spell his name “Wrecks”. We don’t know why/how he lost his leg but we do know he has allergies galore and foster mom, Angie, give him

allergy shots every 10 days. Again, we have spent over $1500 on him but he’s worth every cent. Angie takes great care of him but she did say he will need continued care …but she said he’s the best dog ever (not counting Tulip)!!!

Preparing for Iditarod

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) - Stan Hecker hoisted a 40-pound bag of dog food up on one shoulder and lumbered off where he deposited it on a pallet to be shipped to one of the checkpoints along the 1,100-mile Iditarod Trail.
