Retired police dog finds work in nursing home

I love these kinds of stories -- a big ol' bloodhound who got mixed reviews as a tracking dog for the local police department is a big hit in a local nursing home. Lucy spends more of her time hanging out in the Alzheimers unit and has been a big hit. They say that a dog like Lucy lowers heart rates and makes the experience a little more positive. Good work Lucy, we might have to send one of our dog gift baskets to Salt Lake City!

Save the Green Bay K-9 Unit & it's dogs!

The Green Bay City Council recently voted to get rid of their K-9 unit, effective January 1, 2008.
If something is not done quickly, these 2 beautiful dogs, who have served & saved citizens of Green Bay, may be put to sleep. Should these gorgeous dogs lose their lives as payment for protecting our officers & citizens?!
Because many police dogs do not transition well, if at all, into civilian life after such intense training & work, many times they are not considered adoptable or "transferrable." Why not continue to honor our committment as a community to these dogs who have served us for so long & so well by allowing them to continue living their lives doing what they love & what they are trained to do so well? Just ONE example of their service is this -Jack, a former Green Bay Police Dog, was stabbed by a criminal over 20 times once. Had Jack not been sent in first, it could have been an officer who was injured or killed. It is for just this reason that the Green Bay K-9 unit should be saved.
Green Bay spent tens of thousands of dollars to create a canine unit, and is now getting rid of them for "budget cuts." This is not because Green Bay cannot afford canines, but, it seems, because of personal and/or political motives. Either way, if a police K-9 saves one officer's life, how can we, as a community, not "afford" to have him in the budget!!!!!
If people do not let their voices be heard, we will not have a canine unit next year and our officers and citizens will not be as safe as they are with K-9's such as Poket protecting them. These dogs provide an invaluable service to our community, and to all communities worldwide.
Call & complain to Jim Arts, the Green Bay Police Chief who has made the decision with regard to the future of these dogs. 1-920-448-3200 or fax at 1-920-448-3248!!

IF SOMETHING IS NOT DONE, THE TWO INNOCENT DOGS MAY BE PUT TO SLEEP & THE GREEN BAY K-9 UNIT DISBANDED!
INVITE PEOPLE TO THIS GROUP. THE MORE WHO JOIN THE MORE THAT CAN BE DONE.
