Dogs as heroes

I guess I shouldn't be so impressed when Cobi and Hannah sit politely for treats -- according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution website, there are many dogs in Georgia who have saved lives. The story Dogs Pull Off Amazing Feats tells of truly heroic dogs around Georgia. It ends with the perfect quote: "Not all angels have two feet."

Sometimes we have to trust our dog’s especially working service dogs. I have a story of trust.

While volunteering at Leader Dogs for the Blind, I was told a story of trust from a blind man that vowed to never doubt his K-9 friend again. The man told me of a time he and is leader dog were walking down a city street that they had never been down before. The man said that all at once his leader dog had put on the breaks and ignored all commands to move forward. The man could not figure out what was wrong with his dog. So again he gave his leader dog an even stronger command and the leader dog did not move. So the man thought "this is crazy" they must have given me a poorly trained dog. The man decided to move forward without his partner, what a mistake that was.

The man ended up taking about three steps forward only to fall 5 feet off the edge of the sidewalk into a parking garage stair well that had no rail.

The blind man ended up with a broken arm but most of all the man learned a very important lesson. Listen to your dog’s warnings and always trust the loyalty that dog’s have for there owners.
